About Us – Peel Forest Safaris
Bert and Pennie How and their family welcome you to Peel Forest Safaris.
With more than 25 years commercial hunting and professional guiding in New Zealand, Bert How began his career meat hunting and packing out with horses, then moved into deer culling and live capture from helicoptors, before setting himself up as a professional hunting guide. Bert's office is in the mountains of New Zealand. Hunting is his specialty as your record books will prove.
Bert is a member of the New Zealand Professional Hunting Guides' Association, and a member of the New Zealand S.C.I. He is known for his hunting skills, as well as being a great entertainer, with many a story to tell.
Pennie's cooking experience means she is able to offer a wide variety of meals. She will always try to accommodate special requirements, but mostly serves New Zealand cuisine especially venison, lamb and fish. She uses lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, and serves homemade desserts.
Her packed lunches – for hunters to take with them for the days hunt – have earned her an unmatchable reputation.
Pennie also entertains the non-hunting members of your party, with scenic trips to Milford Sound, Queenstown, through to local tours, scenic flights and even shopping.
gourmet dining and expectional beverages
Adventures can be found to entertain the non-hunting members, from touring of the South Island's scenic locations, like Milford Sound, Queenstown and Mt Cook, to wine tasting in Central Otago vineyards, to shopping at designer stores in Christchurch and Queenstown. Scenic flights over Wanaka, Mt Cook Glaciers and beyond can be arranged.
Peel Forest Horse Trekking
The How children love to entertain visiting children, and can take your kids hunting, tramping, horse trekking or simply enjoying the natural scenic environment at Peel Forest.
We are a family catering for hunting parties that want to enjoy New Zealand, particularly the outdoors.
